CEO, AXIS Re
Steve Arora joined AXIS in January 2018 as CEO of its reinsurance business. Mr. Arora came to AXIS from Swiss Re where he spent 18 years in a variety of senior positions, most recently as Head of Casualty Reinsurance and as a member of the Reinsurance Executive Committee. He has held positions in New York, Munich, London, Tokyo and Zurich, and his expertise crosses Finance, Risk Management, Underwriting, and General Management. In his most recent role at Swiss Re, Mr. Arora led a 250 person organization that spanned the Company’s global network of offices. Previously he served as President and Managing Director of Swiss Re Japan, where he had oversight of the Company’s entire Japanese platform. Previously, he held senior-level positions in Swiss Re’s New York and Zurich offices where he led cross-functional global teams while building the Company’s engineering business unit and infrastructure across the U.S., Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean. Mr. Arora began his career at GE Insurance Solutions where, prior to its acquisition by Swiss Re in 2006, he held positions across the Company’s Philadelphia, London and Munich offices.
President & CUO, AXIS Re Europe
Jan Ekberg serves as President and Chief Underwriting Officer of AXIS Reinsurance Europe. He has spent more than 40 years in the (re)insurance industry, with over 20 years of experience of managing underwriting business units. Mr. Ekberg joined AXIS Reinsurance Europe in 2004 shortly after its formation and has been integral to establishing AXIS Reinsurance Europe as a leading international reinsurer. During his tenure at AXIS, he has led the Property Risk team and the Engineering team. Before joining AXIS, Mr. Ekberg served in various underwriting and management positions at Nordisk Re in Copenhagen, Employers Re and GE Frankona in Munich. He spent the first nine years of his career in primary insurance.
President & CUO, AXIS Re London & APAC
Richard Milner has over 15 years of industry experience in the London, Bermuda and Singapore reinsurance markets. He joined AXIS in 2006, having previously held underwriting positions at Gerling Global Re, Faraday Syndicate (formerly DP Mann) and PXRE Reinsurance Company. In August 2012 Richard moved to Singapore to lead AXIS' reinsurance operations in the Asia Pacific region. During 2016 Richard moved to London to set up an underwriting division for AXIS Reinsurance in the London market and in 2017 we formed AXIS Reinsurance London under Richard’s leadership, combining this role with his continued leadership of the Asia Pacific business. Richard also leads AXIS' Reinsurance Global Business Development team which is responsible amongst other areas for AXIS Reinsurance's client management process and marketing initiatives.
President & CUO, AXIS Re Bermuda
Peter Kiernan has 23 years of industry experience and joined AXIS in 2006. During his tenure at AXIS, he has worked predominately on the underwriting and marketing of US property and specialty catastrophe and per risk business. Prior to joining AXIS in May of 2006, Peter worked at PXRE Reinsurance Company for 14 years in a variety of roles including Senior Vice President – Head of North American Property. He started his career in 1989 at St. Paul Re and is a graduate of Iona College.
Jonathan M. Colello
President & CUO, AXIS Re U.S.
Jon Colello has been with AXIS since 2004. Jon was appointed President and Chief Underwriting Officer of AXIS Reinsurance U.S. in 2016. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President for AXIS Reinsurance U.S.. Prior to AXIS, Jon served as a liability underwriter at Odyssey Re. He began his reinsurance career with AXA Re in 1999 where he served in underwriting positions in both their New York and Paris offices. Mr. Colello has an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Business from The University of Vermont.
Robert J. Looney
Chief Financial Officer and COO, AXIS Re
Rob Looney was appointed Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of AXIS Reinsurance in November 2011 and, prior to that, served as Global Finance Director for AXIS since 2010. For the 12 years preceding his employment at AXIS, Mr. Looney led the insurance investment banking efforts at KeyBanc Capital Markets and Advest Inc., where he had extensive experience in capital raising and merger & acquisition transactions. Earlier in his career, Mr. Looney was a senior manager in the Business Assurance Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP where he managed the audits of several large publicly traded multinational reinsurance and insurance companies. Mr. Looney is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from Villanova University and his Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School.
Chief Actuary, AXIS Re
Peter Martin was appointed Chief Actuary in May 2010, and prior to that served as Chief Actuary for AXIS Reinsurance Bermuda. Previously, Peter was Vice President/Director for St. Paul Re in their New York office. His primary function was that of lead pricing actuary for the North American treaty business. Peter also served in a similar role in the St. Paul Re’s London office during the period of 1996 to 1999. Peter began his career on the primary side for Fireman’s Fund in 1990, where he functioned in a variety of underwriting areas. He graduated with a BS in applied mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1989 and obtained his Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) in 1998.
Head of Portfolio Analytics & Strategic Services, AXIS Re
Stefan Habereder was appointed Chief Risk Officer of AXIS Reinsurance in October 2012 and prior to that served as Chief Actuary of AXIS Reinsurance Europe. Before joining AXIS Reinsurance, Mr. Habereder led the corporate actuarial department at Allianz Global Risks in Munich and also served as General Manager Underwriting at Allianz Re in Dublin. He began his career in 1996 in the treaty reinsurance department of Allianz AG Holding in Munich and became a fully qualified member of the German actuarial society in 1998. He holds a MSc in game theory and applied mathematics.
