Drone racing is already gaining traction around the world. Participants pilot unmanned drones equipped with cameras, allowing them to gain a first-person perspective via a live feed on their head-mounted displays. Similar to esports, there are already a number of leagues and championships across the world.

But where this impacts motorsport is in the development of manned drone racing. Though still not a fully-fledged sport, the Drone Champions League has been testing manned drones inspired by Formula E cars. This will allow racers to actually pilot their drones directly, rather than remotely.
