Sub-delegated brokers have been served with notice of cancellation to 31 March 2020. As such, existing sub-delegated business can be renewed until 31 March 2020, although no new sub-delegated business can be written during this notice period without Contessa’s consent. As the sole Contessa shareholder, AXIS will continue to honour its policy obligations and provide an orderly and professional run-off of the Contessa business.

FCA Business Interruption Insurance Test Case

On 1 May 2020 the Financial Conduct Authority (‘FCA’) announced its intention to seek a court declaration through the UK High Court to obtain clarity on so-called ‘non-damage’ business interruption insurance policies. The aim is to resolve key contractual uncertainties and give clarity to businesses that are facing uncertainty on their claims in relation to Covid-19. The test case has now concluded.
