CEO, AXIS Reinsurance
Steve Arora joined AXIS in January 2018 as CEO of its reinsurance business. Mr. Arora came to AXIS from Swiss Re where he spent 18 years in a variety of senior positions, most recently as Head of Casualty Reinsurance and as a member of the Reinsurance Executive Committee. He has held positions in New York, Munich, London, Tokyo and Zurich, and his expertise crosses Finance, Risk Management, Underwriting, and General Management. In his most recent role at Swiss Re, Mr. Arora led a 250 person organization that spanned the Company's global network of offices. Previously he served as President and Managing Director of Swiss Re Japan, where he had oversight of the Company's entire Japanese platform. Mr. Arora held multiple positions at GE Insurance Solutions prior to its acquisition by Swiss Re.
President, Asia Pacific
After more than 20 years' experience in (re)insurance, Les Loh was named President Asia Pacific, AXIS Re, in May 2018. Based out of the company’s Singapore office, Les joined AXIS Re in 2009 as Treaty Underwriter with key responsibility of underwriting property catastrophe business in the APAC market and leading growth initiatives in the region. Before AXIS Re, Les held various broking positions at Benfield Asia. Les' first reinsurance underwriting position was with Korean Re, having launched his insurance career at Sumitomo Marine where he focused on marketing and underwriting Japan-related accounts.
President, EMEA & Latin America
Jan Ekberg serves as President EMEA and LatAm for AXIS Re, a role he has held since March 2015. He has more than 40 years' (re)insurance experience, including 20 years managing underwriting business units. In 2018, Jan served as Interim CEO of AXIS Re. Jan initially joined AXIS Re in 2004, shortly after the formation of its European operation, and has been integral to establishing AXIS Re as a leading reinsurer. During his tenure at AXIS Re, he has led both the Property Risk and Engineering teams. Before joining AXIS Re, Jan held various underwriting and management positions at Nordisk Re in Copenhagen, Employers Re and at GE Frankona in Munich. He spent the first nine years of his career in primary insurance.
Chief Underwriting Officer
Megan Thomas joined AXIS Re in May 2018 as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO). Megan is responsible for portfolio and product management and leads the Reinsurance Products division, including the Product Center, Cat Modeling & Actuarial Pricing and Structured Re teams. Prior to AXIS Re, Megan spent 12 years at AIG, where she held a succession of CUO positions while working in the company’s New York and Bermuda offices. Most recently, Megan was Global CUO of Liability Lines. Prior, she held the dual position of CUO and Head of Cat Excess Liability. Megan began her career in the Australian insurance and financial services industry, holding various private and public sector roles.
President, Global Markets
Ann Haugh became President Global Markets, AXIS Re, in November 2018. She oversees AXIS Re Strategic Partners, Specialty Re and the Lloyd's platform. Ann joined AXIS Re from Thomas Miller, where she was Group Chief Operating Officer (COO). Prior, Ann held several senior roles at Aspen Insurance Group, including President, International Insurance; Global COO; Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) and was a member of Aspen's Group Executive Committee. Previously, Ann worked for Zurich, culminating in her role as Group Chief of Staff. While there, she was also CEO, Global Corporate UK and COO for Global Corporate. Before this, Ann worked for Arch Insurance, a division of Arch Capital Group Ltd., as Vice President Emerging Markets and ultimately was CUO & COO, Executive Liability. She began her career as a Financial Lines Underwriter at Zurich U.S. and Great American Insurance Company.
Robert J. Looney
Chief Financial Officer & Chief Operating Officer
Rob Looney was appointed Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of AXIS Re in November 2011, after serving as Global Finance Director for AXIS from 2010. For the 12 years preceding his employment at AXIS, Rob led the insurance investment banking efforts at KeyBanc Capital Markets and Advest Inc., where he gained extensive experience in capital raising and merger & acquisition transactions. Earlier in his career, Rob was a senior manager in the Business Assurance Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where he managed the audits of several large, publicly traded, multinational reinsurance and insurance companies.
Head of Human Resources
Based in Zurich, Victoria Westerberg is a Vice President and Senior Human Resources (HR) Business Partner at AXIS Re. She joined AXIS Re in April 2016 as an Assistant Vice President. Prior to AXIS Re, Victoria held a number of human resources roles, spanning a range of sectors from pharmaceuticals to telecoms. Most recently, she was HR Business Partner at Actelion (2013 – 2016) and before this, HR Manager for both COLT Telecom (2010 – 2013) and Tokio Marine HCC Global Financial Products (2005 – 2009). Victoria launched her career as a Transferee Specialist for DuPont (2002 – 2004).
